The city of Rio de Janeiro was chosen to host the seventh edition of the annual Alumni Meeting of the University of Münster in Brazil. The dinner hosted by the Brazilian Centre on December 6, 2023 brought together graduates with the most diverse profiles: from a newly arrived undergraduate exchange student to a professor who did his master's and doctorate at Münster and who maintains strong research and teaching ties at the University.

The federal funding institution in São Paulo FAPESP and the University of Münster have once again published a joint SPRINT call (SPRINT: São Paulo Researchers in International Collaboration).

A series of events, meetings and gatherings, in which the Brazil Centre was involved, took place in Argentina and in Brazil at the end of October and the beginning of November.

The Brazil Chair, one of the most important actions to promote cooperation between the University of Münster (UM) and Brazil, funded by CAPES (Coordination for the Improvement of Higher Education Personnel), is once again open for applications.

On 19 and 20 October, the University of Münster (UM) received its first visit from the Embassy of Brazil in Berlin. The two-day visit programme included a meeting at the Rector's Office, several visits to institutes, getting to know the various campuses of the University of Münster, a meeting with the members of the Brazil Centre and finally the 1rst Meeting of the Brazilian Science Diaspora in NRW.
 

On 19 and 20 October, the Münster University is expecting a visit from the Brazilian Embassy in Berlin: Pedro Ivo Ferraz da Silva, and Silvia Nougués Wargaftig. On the occasion of this visit, the Brazil Centre, in cooperation with the Embassy, is organising the so-called Brazil Science Days at the University of Münster with a diverse programme.

On 27 September a delegation from the Brazilian University of São Paulo (USP) visited the University of Münster.

The former rector and emeritus professor of public, European and administrative law at the University of Münster, Prof. Dr. Dr. h. c. Hans-Uwe Erichsen, was awarded the National Order of the Southern Cross.

The projects selected by the joint call for proposals with FAPESP (Sao Paulo Research Foundation), the Brazilian state agency with the most resources available for promoting research, were announced.

The largest Brazilian funding agency CAPES (Coordination for the Improvement of Higher Education Personnel) released the results of the call CAPES Brazil Chair 2023.

On 12 September, the Falling Walls Lab Brazil 2023 will be held on the campus of the Federal University of São Paulo (Unifesp).

On 25 and 27 May, the second edition of the German-Brazilian EdTech Hackathon - Digital Education took place at the Goethe-Institut in São Paulo.

The International Cooperation Group of Brazilian Universities (Grupo de Cooperação Internacional de Universidades - GCUB) has launched the Second Edition of the GCUB International Mobility Programme – GCUB-Mob.

 

On 12.06.2023, the Rector of the Federal University of Minas Gerais (UFMG), Prof. Dr. Sandra R. Goulart Almeida together with Prof. Dr. Eduardo N. dos Santos, Institute for Inorganic Chemistry of the UFMG were guests at Münster University.

Most recently, the Brazilian modernist capital became the stage of events that changed the way we relate to the foundations and the future of democracy.

Prof Dr Stephan Ludwig (Institute of Molecular Virology), who has maintained contacts to Fiocruz for many years and initiated the university-wide partnership with Münster University, organised the visit to WWU with the support of the Brazil Centre.

On 11 April 2023, Prof Dr Michael Quante welcomed a delegation of eight representatives of the Brazilian Federal University of Viçosa (UFV) on a warm spring afternoon.

The PROBRAL programme, a cooperation between the DAAD and CAPES has opened a new call. Up to 30 projects can be selected.
 

The scientific and academic cooperation between WWU and the University of São Paulo (USP) in Brazil will receive new important impulses through two recently approved projects within the framework of the PROBRAL and PROPASP calls for proposals.

On 23 March 2023, at 3pm (CET)/11am (BRA), the third meeting of the Brazilian Diaspora for Science, Technology and Innovation will take place and the Brazil Centre of the University of Münster is also on the programme this time.

Learn everything you need to know about funding, research careers and opportunities for Postdocs in Germany. The event is co-organized by the “Universities in Germany” consortium and DWIH São Paulo and is supported by DAAD Brasil, Humboldt Foundation, DFG Latin American Office and EURAXESS.

Norbert Robers, head of the Communication and Public Relations Office and press spokesperson of Münster University, accompanied the Rector and representatives of the Brazil Centre on their trip to Brazil (6 to 11 February) with a dense programme of about 15 meetings over five days in three cities with numerous partners.
 

On 18.01.2022, the general assembly of the Brazil Centre was held in a hybrid format, during which the new board of the Brazil Centre was elected.
