Brazil Science Days: Brazilian researchers are invited to the 1st meeting of the Brazilian Science diaspora

On 19 and 20 October, the Münster University is expecting a visit from the Brazilian Embassy in Berlin: Pedro Ivo Ferraz da Silva, Head of the Department of Science, Technology and Innovation, and Silvia Nougués Wargaftig, a long-standing member of the department. On the occasion of this visit, the Brazil Centre, in cooperation with the Embassy, is organising the so-called Brazil Science Days at the University of Münster with a diverse programme including numerous visits and talks at various University institutions. In this context, on 20 October 2023, the 1st Meeting of the Brazilian Science and Innovation Diaspora in NRW will take place, to which the Brazil Centre, the Embassy and the APOENA network cordially invite all Brazilian researchers living in Germany.

The embassy representatives will be informed at Münster University about the main areas of research, teaching and cooperation with Brazil and will exchange ideas with professors and young academics who are active in Brazil. In this way, the guests will be able to have an idea of the numerous and varied bilateral research cooperation and discuss the potential for expanding and intensifying their collaboration with the members of the Brazil Centre. In addition, an exchange on the perspectives of bilateral scientific cooperation and the role of science diplomacy is planned. Brazil Science Days of this kind have already taken place in Tübingen and Leipzig.

On the second day of the Brazil Science Days, on 20 October, the programme includes the meeting of the Brazilian science and innovation diaspora, which will take place for the first time NRW and results from the cooperation of the Brazil Centre, the Apoena Network and the Brazilian Embassy in Berlin.

The meeting offers a diverse programme with presentations, a panel discussion and numerous networking opportunities. At the meeting, Embassy Secretary, Pedro Ivo Ferraz da Silva, will bring the audience closer to the Embassy's activities with regard to the science diaspora. Moreover, Prof. Dr. Abílio Baeta Neves, former CAPES President and Honorary Ambassador of the University of Münster, will enrich the event with a short talk on his career and the importance of networking.

The meeting will create a space for dialogue where Brazilian researchers and experts from different fields in Germany can share their careers, challenges and perspectives. The event aims to promote interaction between Brazilian researchers and experts, put them in touch with each other and identify opportunities for promoting cooperation between Brazil and Germany.
