Last Friday, 7 June 2024, the University of Münster received a special visit from the Federal University of Pernambuco (UFPE). The group, consisting of 11 students and two professors, had the opportunity to visit the central facilities of the University of Münster and participate in events that promoted academic exchange between the two institutions.

The Brazil Centre welcomed the UFPE group at Schlossplatz on a sunny day. The Managing Director of the Brazil Centre at the University of Münster, Anja Grecko Lorenz, opened the event and welcomed the group. Viktoria Junasko started the information event in Münster University's Castle with a presentation by the International Office, which introduced the Brazilian students to the wide range of study and research opportunities in Münster.

Olja Lunina then presented the Department of Economics, which is of particular interest to the group from Brazil with a focus on marketing. Finally, Anja Grecko Lorenz and Laura Redondo, the Head of the Brazil Centre's Liaison Office in São Paulo, presented the Brazil Centre, its functions and objectives as well as the university's diverse and intensive cooperation with the country. After a warm welcome, the visitors were given a tour of the university buildings and had lunch in the canteen “Mensa am Aasee”.

After a refreshing lunch, the group visited the Language Centre, where they learned more about this institution through a presentation by Ayrton Chavez and Olga Gaudioso Sousona and listened to an exciting talk by PhD student Sertan Eravci on the topic of "Marketing and Sustainability". The Brazilian students then presented their city of Recife, their home university and the state of Pernambuco.

A lively discussion led by Laura Redondo shed light on cultural issues relating to marketing and sustainability. This part of the programme also included an intercultural round in which students from the University of Münster's Language Centre were able to practise Portuguese with native speakers and share their academic experiences. Finally, Renata Araújo, the Latin America representative of the ASV (Ausländische Studierendenvertretung) at the University of Münster, answered the students' numerous questions about studying in Germany.

To round off the day perfectly, the students visited the popular lake “Aasee” and sampled local beers. There, the dynamic exchange with students from Münster continued. Finally, everyone took part in the Headphone Party 2024, which took place at Prinzipalmarkt under the motto "Celebrate Democracy" to mark the European Parliament elections.

We would like to thank the UFPE group for their visit and for the enthusiasm and energy that the Brazilian students and professors brought with them. The group's trip to other German cities was made possible thanks to funding from the DAAD.
