Research collaboration in medicine: Delegations from São Paulo visit the University of Münster as part of the FAPESP-SPRINT and PROBRAL projects
During the week of the 24th of June, the University of Münster was delighted to welcome three delegation groups from various Brazilian institutions, including the University of São Paulo (USP), the Butantan Institute, the Federal University of São Paulo (UNIFESP), the São Paulo State University (UNESP) and the Federal University of Minas Gerais (UFMG).
Two delegation groups travelled to Münster as part of their FAPESP-Sprint projects, which were approved in 2023. The FAPESP-SPRINT call for proposals is a collaborative initiative between the funding agency FAPESP, a foundation for research support in the state of São Paulo, and the University of Münster. The aim is to promote scientific cooperation between researchers from São Paulo and Münster. This collaboration between both institutions has been governed by a cooperation agreement since 2014. In 2023, several such SPRINT projects were selected, two of which involved the delegation groups accompanied by Prof. Dr. Ulrich Dobrindt and Prof. Dr. med. dent. Johannes Kleinheinz.
The third group, accompanied by Prof. Dr. Stephan Ludwig, visited Münster as part of a PROBRAL project funded by the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) in cooperation with the Brazilian funding agency CAPES (Brazilian Funding Agency for Higher Education). The aim of the visit by all three delegations was to strengthen cooperation between the research groups and intensify academic exchange.
For the first day of the visit, the Brazil Centre organized a special programme for the groups, which started with a tour through the historic centre of Münster and then included a campus tour of the scientific and medical institutions, the Center for Soft Nanoscience (SoN), the Max Planck Institute and the research centre MEET (Münster Electrochemical Energy Technology). On the Leonardo Campus, where the Brazil Centre is also located, the Brazilian guests took part in an information event at which the activities and functions of the Brazil Centre were presented. Afterwards, they had lunch at the University Hospital Münster (UKM). The visitors were enthusiastic about the city and its history and highly impressed by the university.
