The University of Münster (Germany) wishes to appoint a three year 65 %

Research Associate

within the Cluster of Excellence “Religion and Politics. Dynamics of Tradition and Innovation”, research project “Buildings Change Their Identity – Iberia 711–1609” under the direction of Prof. Dr. Katrin Kogman-Appel.

This fixed-term position is scheduled to start on August 1, 2019, and will run until Sept. 30 2022. According to the German collective labour agreement for public sector employees (TV-L E 13), the salary for the position starts at approximately 1566 € (net) per month during the first year. The regular working hours amount to 25 hours and 53 minutes per week.

Standard duties:

  • Participation in research project “Buildings Change Their Identity – Iberia 711–1609”
  • Active involvement in the Graduate School program
  • Dissertation project

Research associates are expected to pursue their own academic career (doctoral thesis) in conjunction with the duties pertaining to the position. In order to facilitate communication and collaboration within the Graduate School, applicants who are not proficient in German will be encouraged to attend German language courses.

Qualifications, knowledge and experiences:

  • Above-average higher education diploma in Jewish Studies, Jewish History, General History with an expertise in Jewish history, or related disciplines
  • Profound knowledge in medieval Jewish cultural, Hebrew, Spanish. Language skills can be improved during the PhD enrollment
  • Experience in handling medieval source material
