The mentoring program
Especially in the first semesters, the same questions keep coming up: What do I have to pay attention to when registering? Where can I find the teaching materials? And what is the best way to prepare for the exam in a specific module?
The technical questions are also repeated: what was a Taylor series and what was a Fourier series? Are there any sources that explain this in a way that is easy to understand?
Sometimes it is simply good to learn that you are not alone with your problems and that others are struggling with the same things at the beginning of their studies: feeling overwhelmed, self-doubt, fear of exams - many students know all of this from their early days. The mentors know from their own experience that in reality things are often a lot less bad than they first appear.
The social component should not be underestimated either. In the mentoring program, you make contacts in higher semesters right at the beginning of your studies, which you can use for yourself. And you can find out what activities the student council is currently organizing, why it's fun to be at the regular get-togethers and what else is happening at the Institute of Geophysics.
Are you a freshman? Then you should definitely try our mentoring program: it's worth it!
