Habilitation Dr. Fabian C. Herrmann
On 29.05.2024, Dr. rer. nat. Fabian Christopher Herrmann (pictured left) habilitated at the Institute of Pharmaceutical Biology and Phytochemistry (IPBP) at the University of Münster. Faculty 12 - Chemistry and Pharmacy awarded him the venia legendi for Pharmaceutical Biology and Phytochemistry and with it the title “Privatdozent”.
With his habilitation thesis “From ultrastructural morphology to a potential mechanism of action - The Atomic Force Microscope as innovative tool to evaluate anti-infective natural products”, Priv.-Doz. Dr. Herrmann opens up completely new dimensions for the subject of pharmaceutical biology, which has historically been strongly influenced by light microscopy: Atomic Force Microscopy (AFM), which he uses to investigate the effects of active substances on cells, allows the visualization of (sub)cellular structures down to the macromolecular level through extreme magnification of ultrastructural details and thus deep insights into the target structures and mechanisms of action of the substances under investigation.
