Abstract
Sensitivity to numbers is a crucial cognitive ability. The lack of experimental models amenable to systematic genetic and neural manipulation has precluded discovering neural circuits required for numerical cognition. I Will discuss our efforts to develop the fruit fly Drosophila melanogaster as an amenable genetic behavioral model for the neural underpinnings of this evolutionarily conserved process.
