Abstract

Faces play a crucial role in our social interactions and provide essential information about a person's identity, emotions and intentions. In many mental disorders (e.g. autism spectrum disorder), face processing is altered. Detailed neuroanatomical network models exist that describe which brain regions are involved in face processing, what functions they perform and how they interact with each other. Although this network consists of areas that are mirror-symmetrical in both hemispheres of the brain, these models only describe functional differences between regions within one hemisphere. In my talk, I will present studies that can provide first insights into how left and right hemispheric homologs of the face perception network differ.
