Warning about current scam emails

An increased number of scam emails are currently being sent to many members of the University of Münster.

In the emails, the attackers pose as managers or supervisors and ask for assistance with an "important task." The sender's name uses the name of the supervising person, but the emails originate from an external address (often a generic Gmail address). Currently, the names of the recipients are used as the subject. For this purpose, names and email addresses of employees and supervisors are taken from the public websites of the University of Münster. If one responds to these contact attempts, the purchase of gift or prepaid cards is requested, followed by sending the codes via email.

Please do not respond to these emails and by no means comply with the demands! Always check the sender's address and the digital signature.

With our eight-point checklist 'How to detect scam emails', you can independently determine whether an email is a scam attempt.
