Improper expression or function of lncRNAs may contribute complex cardiovascular diseases, which may be attributable to genetic variation within the RNA sequence. Genetic variants modify the secondary structure and thus the function of the respective lncRNA. Here we aim to identify such genetic variants (riboSNitches) through bioinformatics and next generation sequencing approaches, their evolutionary conservation, and their downstream effects on global gene expression patterns in myocardial tissues coming from experimental mouse models and patient populations.
