Bacterial pathogens have the potential to evolve rapidly. However, does rapid evolution of bacterial pathogens depend on the immunological status of their hosts and the hosts' microbiota? These are questions that will be addressed in this project, using serial passage of bacteria in the red flour beetle as a highly tractable system for experimental approaches.
