At the end of March 2024, with the aim of bringing institutions closer to other Latin American countries, the Scientific Director of the Brazil Centre, Prof. Dr.-Ing. Bernd Hellingrath, and the Director of the São Paulo Office, Laura Redondo, took part in the conference "The challenges of the university system and internationalisation", held in Buenos Aires, Argentina. Promoted by the Argentinian Interuniversity Council (CIN) alongside the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD), the German Rectors’ Conference (HRK), the Bavarian University Centre for Latin America (BAYLAT) and OBREAL.

Various examples of cooperation between Argentinian and foreign universities, particularly from Germany, were presented during the conference, whether in the form of double degree programmes, ambitious research infrastructures or virtual mobility. The obstacles that stand in the way of internationalisation were also discussed, as well as proposals for promoting sustainable alliances that can withstand institutional, political and economic difficulties.

The event ended with a reception at the German Embassy in Buenos Aires, where the Ambassador, Dieter Lamlé, emphasised the importance of the long-standing academic and scientific relations between the two countries, which even include an Argentine-German University Centre (CUAA-DAHZ). This university centre is dedicated to promoting initiatives between the universities, whose German side is anchored in the DAAD structure in Bonn.
