Important information for students

  • Courses for undergraduate students (Bachelor)

The Faculty of Biology offers courses for Bachelor students taught in English only during the winter semester. All exchange students can take part in two specialization modules (12 ECTS each) together with the BSc Bioscience students in the 5th semester.

    Specialization modules

The Faculty of Biology does not offer courses for Bachelor students taught in English during summer semester. Exchange students with good German language skills (minimum B1) can take part in courses of the module  "Zellbiologie, Physiologie und Genetik" together with the BSc Biosciences students in the 4th semester. Exchange students without German language skills have to attend master courses during the summer semester. However, the number of master modules that are eligible for undergraduate exchange students is limited.

  • Courses for graduate students (Master)

As an exchange student, depending on your experience and language skills, you can select modules of the bachelor (see courses for Bachelor students) as well as the master programs.

Master exchange students can select advanced modules (6 ECTS). Advanced modules are four-week full-time modules (10 am-6 pm). They take place in certain periods ("Block"). Not all advanced modules are eligible for exchange students. The advanced modules are normally organised for a small group of students. Thereby the students will gain practical experience and theoretical knowledge enabling them to carry out a research project. The specific focus of the module is based on the current research of the hosting group.

Specific courses for exchange students

  • Welcome Module (winter term)

A laboratory course in molecular biology for all new incoming students

The Welcome Module was specifically designed for new international Bachelor and Master exchange students at the faculty of biology and aims at preparing them for their studies at our university and life in Münster. To enhance the interaction with the regular students at the faculty, common leisure activities are organized.

Week 1 Morning: Introduction of the faculty and the study programs, campus tour, induction to to basic scientific work method
Afternoon: joint leisure activities with regular students of the faculty
