Projektbeschreibung:

GI Zeitgeist 2012 was a conference for young researchers in the field of Geographic Information Science (GIScience) held in Münster on the 16th and 17th of March 2012. Its goal was to gather international junior researchers and give them the opportunity to exchange ideas and get feedback on their work. Paper submissions from a broad disciplinary spectrum were invited. The submissions covered well established topics of GIScience such as analysis of spatial and spatio-temporal data, development of open standards and services, location-based services and ubiquitous computing, spatial cognition and spatial reasoning, and wayfinding and navigation.

14 short papers presenting visionary ideas and work in progress and 5 full papers presenting substantial research results were selected in a peer review process and published in the conference proceedings (ISBN 978-3-89838-663-0 (AKA)). In addition to the paper presentations there were two invited keynotes by Prof. Dr. Gerard Heuvelink on "Coping with uncertainty in spatial environmental modelling" and by Prof. Dr. Sven Bertel on "An integrated approach to Usability: Examples of Spatial Tasks". The presentations of the papers and keynotes stimulated lively discussions and provided valuable inspiration for the scientific work of the authors and the audience. The participants, who were mostly PhD students, but also master students and researchers at the post-doctoral level, came from research institutions from all over Germany and other countries including Austria, The Netherlands and Hungary. GI Zeitgeist 2012 was organized by the students of the International Research Training Group Semantic Integration of Geospatial Information from the Universities Münster and Bremen.
