Gerhard Erker was a Professor at the Organisch-Chemisches Institut of the University Münster from 1990 to 2015. After his retirement, he was a Senior Professor at the Organisch-Chemisches Institut until Feb. 2022. His research laboratory was closed in Oct. of 2022. Professor Erker’s active research interests were centered in the fields of Organometallic Chemistry and Catalysis, and he had a high current interest in Main Group Element Chemistry. This was especially focussed on the element boron and included active research in frustrated Lewis pair chemistry, 1,1-carbo- and 1,1-hydroboration reactions, the chemistry of boron containing π-systems, and the discovery of rare examples of compounds of the borapyramidane family.
