Thanks to the financial support of the Santander Mobility Fund (500 €), I was able to attend the EGU24 conference in Vienna, Austria, from 15 to 19 April, 2024. The European Geosciences Union (EGU) General Assembly is the largest and most prominent European geosciences conference. It is held annually and serves as a platform for the scientific community to present and discuss their research work, promoting the advancement of the Earth, planetary, and space sciences. The conference provides a forum for scientists, especially early career researchers, to present their work and discuss their ideas with experts in all fields of broad geosciences. It covers a wide range of topics, including volcanology, planetary exploration, the Earth’s internal structure and atmosphere, climate, and energy and resources. It is also a great place for geoscientists to meet, share, and discuss their research.

My abstract was submitted to SSP 4.1 Paleoclimate and paleoenvironment through the lens of micropaleontology, under the Stratigraphy, Sedimentology & Palaeontology program. My study used benthic foraminiferal assemblage, neodymium and carbon and oxygen stable isotopes to reconstruct the paleoceanography and paleoclimatology since the Middle Miocene. In this session, I had the chance to get extremely useful feedback from my peers and senior researchers, which helped me to better prepare for the upcoming PhD defence.

I also had the opportunity to talk to a postdoctoral researcher who has used neodymium isotopes to track the Antarctic Circumpolar Current in the mid to late Miocene. His study is very interesting and closely related to my research. We exchanged ideas, which helped us to better understand our studies and the paleocurrent settings in the Indian Ocean during the Middle Miocene.
