Participating in the 7th edition of Alpavirama, the International Youth Film Festival, was a transformative experience. Screening my short film, "A Family Portrait", amidst the vibrant energy of young filmmakers and creative minds from across the globe was both humbling and exhilarating.

The festival’s theme, “Reflected Realities,” resonated deeply with my film, which explores the layered complexities of familial relationships. Seeing it received with such warmth and understanding by a diverse audience was a moment of immense pride. Conversations following the screening revealed perspectives I hadn’t considered, highlighting the universal yet varied interpretations of the film’s themes.

What truly stood out was the incredible dynamism of the young creators at the festival. Their ideas buzzed with originality, pushing boundaries and reimagining storytelling. Sharing spaces with these passionate individuals, whether during screenings or casual chats over coffee, inspired me to think beyond my current framework and embrace new possibilities.

The Cine Bazaar was an eye-opener. Engaging with industry professionals who generously shared insights about the business of filmmaking offered practical knowledge that often eludes young filmmakers. Workshops and masterclasses conducted by seasoned professionals further deepened my understanding of the craft, from nuanced storytelling to the technicalities of production.

One of the most rewarding aspects was connecting with academics from different countries who attended the festival. Their encouraging feedback on "A Family Portrait" and invitations to submit my work to their universities for screenings were affirmations of the film’s impact. These interactions bridged the gap between academia and practice, underscoring how festivals like Alpavirama serve as catalysts for global collaboration and intellectual exchange.

I left the festival not just as a filmmaker but as a learner, filled with ideas and reflections to carry forward. Alpavirama’s ability to create a nurturing environment for experimentation and dialogue sets it apart. I am deeply grateful for the opportunity to pause and reflect amidst such a remarkable gathering of storytellers. This experience reaffirmed my belief in the power of cinema as a medium to connect, provoke, and inspire.
