Privacy statement
We value your trust. For this reason, we aim to respect your privacy and inform you about the personal data which is obtained and stored when you visit our website.
Data collection and storage
When you visit our website, your browser automatically sends information about your browser type and version, operating system, referrer URL, IP address, file name and access status, the transmitted amount of data, and the date and time of the server query. This stored data is only used for identification and for tracking unauthorised attempts to access the web server. The data is neither compared with that of other databases nor disclosed to third parties. The data is stored for a maximum period of 30 days and then deleted following a statistical analysis in pseudonymised form.
The online services offered by the University of Münster occasionally require users to provide personal data (e.g. email address, name, postal address) to subscribe to newsletters, receive replies to queries and participate in online discussion forums. These services are provided for use on an explicitly voluntary basis. Naturally, the requested data will only be used for the purpose intended and will not be disclosed to third parties.
Email addresses provided for newsletter subscriptions are stored on our server and are not used for any other purpose than for sending the newsletter in question. Subscribers may cancel their subscription at any time; their email addresses are then deleted.
Cookies
Your browser also saves so-called “cookies” on your computer. These are files which make your Internet experience more user-friendly. You may choose to deactivate cookies by blocking them via your web browser. However, this may prevent you from taking full advantage of all the features offered on the website.
Piwik analysis service
Our website uses Piwik, a web analytics open-source software. Piwik saves text files, called “cookies”, onto your computer, which allows us to analyse how you use the website. For this purpose, the information generated by the cookie (including your abbreviated IP address) is transmitted and saved onto our server so that we can optimise our web pages. As all IP addresses are immediately anonymised in the process, your user identity remains anonymous.
The data collected by the cookie is not shared with third parties. You may choose to deactivate cookies by blocking them via your web browser. However, this may prevent you from taking full advantage of all the features offered on this website.
If you do not wish to have your session data saved and analysed, you can retract your consent on cookie storage and usage with a mouse click at any time. In this case, Piwik places an “opt-out cookie” onto your browser, which prevents it from collecting any data during your visit to our website.
Please note: If you choose to delete all of the cookies in your browser, the Piwik opt-out cookie will also be erased. This means you will have to reactivate the opt-out cookie during your next session.
