Die GAIN24 Jahrestagung und Talent Fair findet vom 23. bis 25. August 2024 in San Francisco statt. Sie richtet sich an Postdocs aus Deutschland, die zur Zeit auf dem amerikanischen Kontinent tätig sind.

The event series "Third-party Funding in a Nutshell/Drittmittelkompetenz kompakt" of the Department of Research Affairs is aimed at researchers from Faculties 1–4 and 6–15 and takes place alternately in German and English.

Every application for third-party funding contains recurring elements that go beyond the individual requirements of the funding agency. In this event, the parts of the application and the associated key questions will be presented and structured in order to provide you with a roadmap for as many application formats as possible. In addition, we will focus on application strategy and what is important to reviewers and funding agencies.

The work program, including the work plan and timetable, forms the core of every third-party funding application. We will show you how a clear and concise presented project profits from visualizations. The work plan also forms the basis for the cost calculation. A detailed work plan is the prerequisite and justification for estimating the costs that are required. Find out which costs are eligible and how a convincing project budget is created. We offer practical calculation tips and introduce you to specific tools.

Digital data is generated in practically all scientific work. Examples include measurement results, photos or digital editions of historical texts. The handling of such data is part of good scientific practice, which is why third-party funding bodies now almost invariably require this aspect to be addressed in project proposals.
A clear strategy for the management and publication of research data and results is therefore crucial for a successful third-party funding application. The lecture will present aspects that should support the development of such a strategy: What tools exist to capture and manage research data in a structured way? Which storage locations are available? How can data and results be published digitally? What licenses are available for this? What opportunities and financial support are available for publishing Open Access? What support do the University of Münster and ULB offer?

Ein Projekt wurde bewilligt – wie geht es weiter? Sie erhalten praktische Hinweise zur Anzeige eines Projektes, zu den einzureichenden Finanzierungsplänen sowie allgemeine Informationen zur Bewirtschaftung der Projektmittel. Ihre konkreten Fragen, Probleme sowie der direkte Austausch mit den Mitarbeiter*innen der Drittmittelverwaltung (Dez. 6.3) stehen an diesem Tag im Vordergrund.
Die Veranstaltung findet in deutscher Sprache statt.

Die Veranstaltung richtet sich an alle Mitarbeiterinnen und Mitarbeiter, die an Instituten, Lehrstühlen etc. mit der Projektadministration, Bewirtschaftung und Rechnungsstellung befasst sind.

Welche Arten von Drittmittelverträgen gibt es? Wie grenzen sich Kooperationsverträge, FuE-Verträge „Auftragsforschung“ und andere Verträge ab? Welche Stellen in der Verwaltung müssen bis zum Vertragsschluss beteiligt werden? Welche Besonderheiten gelten bei wirtschaftlichen Projekten? Welche steuerrechtlichen Themen sind diesbezüglich zu beachten? Welche steuerlichen Rahmenbedingungen gelten für das Thema Sponsoring (kurzer Einblick)?
In der Veranstaltung stellen Referent*innen aus dem Justiziariat und der Abteilung für Steuern ihre Arbeit vor und beantworten Ihre Fragen.
Die Veranstaltung findet in deutscher Sprache statt.

Three-day workshop programme
The first SAIL programme took place from April to May 2024. The next programme run is planned for October and November 2024.
International contacts, networks and visibility are relevant criteria in the academic world. Research is becoming increasingly international. Numerous funding organisations not only specifically fund international research, but also increasingly expect international scientific profiles from their grantees. The SAIL programme teaches early career researchers (ECRs) how to strategically build and expand this profile over three mornings:
Day 1: First steps - opportunities to operate internationally in research
Day 2: Developing your own academic career with the help of third-party funding for international projects
Day 3: Effective planning and design of proposals for international cooperation projects
Target group:
Doctoral candidates in the final phase of their doctorate and postdocs up to three years after their doctorate

In the second part, experienced DFG review board members will share insights on the decision-making sessions, give tips for good proposals and will be happy to answer questions you may have.
