The interdisciplinary approach of the CRC requires among other things a profound analytical investigation into questions of theory that reach beyond defining the terms and conditions of 'law' and 'literature.' The theory forum thus provides a space for all PIs to discuss and negotiate diverse theoretical approaches to both disciplines and beyond. This includes basic questions such as the relevance of respective disciplinary concepts and the meanings of both literary and legal theories and their impact on one another. Moreover, the forum interconnects all of the CRC’s individual projects and reaches towards the graduate school through providing a theoretical framework for the PhD-candidates from both disciplines. Besides discussing basic concepts and terms in both law and literary studies, the forum also seeks to establish theoretical models applicable to both and provides a fruitful exchange between different models of explanation in both law and literature. The CRC aims beyond the hermeneutical approach established in the field and hopes to contribute a greater diversity of theoretical possibilities for both. The forum considers such possible theoretical interconnections both on the level of 'interpretations' in law and literature as well as a more autonomous view of genealogical processes in the respective fields.
