Migration of the home directories

Due to the assimilated structure of the homedirectory to newer versions of windows in the "new NWZ", as opposed to the old NWZnet domain, files and folders have to be moved into the new structure. For this a script is carried out when logging in to the NWZ domain, that moves data to new locations. No data gets lost!

Homeverzeichnis
To preserve user-friendliness, it is advisable to migrate data via the starting script. However, it should only be migrated, if the account is mainly used for working in the NWZ. Generally, it is not advisable to switch between both domains. After the script has completed, files or orders that have been created later on will not be taken into account and have to be moved by the user himself, if necessary.

The script moves* existing files and folders in the directories as follows:

NWZnet NWZ
I:\ I:\Documents
I:\My Music I:\Documents\My Music
I:\My Pictures I:\Documents\My Pictures
I:\My Videos I:\Documents\My Videos
I:\init\Desktop I:\Desktop

*the exceptions mentioned below have been taken into consideration.

The script deals with every of the mentioned main directories seperately and creates after succesful migration for every main directory a cookie in the directory„I:\init\NWZ-Cookies -DO NOT DELETE-". On the basis of these files the script sees which areas have migrated succesfully so they must not be deleted. Moreover the directory  „I:\init\NWZnet-Cookies -DO NOT DELETE-" plays a major role in the recognition and must also not be deleted. After a succesful migration there are five cookies in the directory:

  1. Documents_Migrated.nwz
  2. Music_Migrated.nwz
  3. Pictures_Migrated.nwz
  4. Videos_Migrated.nwz
  5. Desktop_Migrated.nwz

Errors appearing

Unable to move…
In the case of files and folders with the same name existing in source- and target-directory, the object cannot be moved. Then you have to decide which object the right one is and delete or rename one of the objects.
The script shows the objects in question. As long as the files or folders are not treated by the user, the script will carry out the error again after every log in. After treating it, the script will run through completely and migration will be completed.

Unable_to_Move

Square Brackets in File- or Folder-Name

Should square brackets be part of a file- or foldername, the script cannot move these elements and migration cannot be concluded. In that case the element has to be migrated by the user himself.
