    Study information

    Structure of the study programme

Here you can find useful information about the organisation of your studies at the Institute of Political Science at WWU.

If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact the SIC.

Political science comprises the following core areas:

    1. Political theory and philosophy: This area deals with the history and present of political ideas, compares political theories and develops special theories and methods of political science research.
    2. The political system of the Federal Republic of Germany: This area deals with the politics of the Federal Republic and the shaping social forces, with the party, parliamentary, governmental, administrative and legal systems of the Federation and the Länder (municipalities).
    3. Analysis and comparison of political systems: This area deals with the constitutions of different states, compares political cultures and forms of government, examines public administrations and analyses the economic and social tasks of states.
    4. International relations, development policy, European policy and foreign policy: This area examines the foreign policy of states, international relations and organisations, the international legal system, the problems of developing countries and questions of security policy and peacekeeping. A special, constantly growing area is European integration in its development, institutions, procedures and effects.

According to an international consensus, objects in all these areas can be divided into policy content, the political processes of conflict resolution and the planning and implementation of goals (politics), and the structures and procedures, including institutions, in short, the political order (polity).

Recognition of examination results and placement in higher semesters

*You will find the study advisors responsible for you below, sorted by degree programme*.

In order to ensure that your application is processed quickly, from now on recognition and placement will only be granted after you have submitted a completed application for recognition of examination results or for placement in a higher semester. Please tick the appropriate box in the application form (use several forms if necessary). You can find the relevant forms here.

Important! In order to be able to process your application, the following information and documents are required if your achievements were not achieved in the subject Political Science and/or are not recorded in the QISPOS system or in the electronic achievement management ELVE of Münster University:

    1. Proof of the examination and study achievements to be recognised.
    2. Information on the type, content and scope of the courses to be recognised. For this purpose, please submit the corresponding syllabus or other overviews/evidence of the courses to be recognised, which show the extent to which the course took place, what kind of course it was and what the content of this course was about, as well as how you achieved the examination performance. You can also find information on this in the comments in the course catalogue, the module descriptions or the programme descriptions of foreign universities. It is also possible to provide the necessary information yourself in writing, provided that you can prove the accuracy of your information.

Please mark the relevant places in your course documentation with information on the type, content and scope of the work you have done, if the necessary information is not obvious at a glance.

    1. In order to be able to indicate for which course of your (new) degree programme you would like to have the achievements you have already made recognised, please first find out about the respective performance requirements and the types of courses to be attended in your examination regulations or the subject-specific regulations or module descriptions or in the subject-specific academic counselling.
