I'll explain the basics and the main results surrounding the theory of local models of Shimura varieties using purely p-adic methods, such as Scholze's theory of diamonds and their étale cohomology. Ideas from geometric representation theory also play a prominent role in these developments. The contents of the talks are based on several joint works with different authors.
