The Hodge-Newton filtration for deformations of local G-shtukas Abstract: Local shtukas are the function field analogue of p-divisible groups. As such, they possess Hodge-Newton decompositions and filtrations. We prove that under suitable assumptions the HN-filtration of a local shtuka can be lifted to its universal deformation. This may be viewed as an analogue in equal characteristic of a result of Moonen and Mantovan-Viehmann. However, our group-theoretic approach is suitable for proving a more general statement in which local shtukas are replaced by local G-shtukas for some reductive group G.
