There are many misconceptions about psychiatric disease: what causes it, who is at risk, and how it manifests. Increasingly, we are understanding how common these misconceptions are in academia.
This 1-hour talk will deliver the basics of mental health touching upon the following topics: (1)Prevalence of mental health illness in general and academic populations. (2) An overview of signs and symptoms, highlighting those seen in academic settings. (3) The science underlying the causes and treatments of mental illnesses, with an emphasis on depression and anxiety (most common mental illness).
