Bernhard Rensch Lectures (since 1980)
The annual lecture takes place in honor of Bernhard Rensch (* 1900, † 1990), who was professor for Zoology and Director of the Zoological Institute at the University of Münster from 1947 to 1968. Bernhard Rensch was one of the architects of the modern evolutionary synthesis and worked influentially in three major fields of research: transspecific evolution and the theory of descent, animal psychology, and biophilosophy. The Department of Biology launched the lecture series in 1980 on the occassion of Prof. Rensch's 80th birthday.
