Description
The Research Centre Letters serves as an interdisciplinary research and study of letter-cultures across epochs and letter types: from the everyday letter to the artistic literary epistle. A special focus is on the study of ancient epistolography.
The research network includes the fields of ancient history, classical philology, New Testament exegesis, patristics, Byzantine studies, philosophy and literary studies.
The different texts and text corpora will be examined from the perspective of the transmission, editing, commenting, exegesis and interpretation of letters, as well as questions of contemporary letter research as they are dealt with in the individual fields. The opening of the Research Centre Letters took place on the 8th of November 2019, with a keynote address by Prof. Dr. Heinz-Günther Nesselrath (University of Göttingen) at the Faculty of Protestant Theology, Universtitätsstraße 13-17.
