Introduction
In the practical course "Drug analysis with special reference to pharmacopoeias", important analytical methods of the pharmacopoeia are presented and carried out with regard to the determination of identity, purity and content. Both classical wet chemical methods and instrumental methods (e.g. IR, HPLC) are used. After the individual analytical methods have already been learned in the basic course, these methods are now applied concretely in relation to the requirements of the pharmacopoeia. In the practical course, for example, complete monographs of individual drugs are worked on as examples.
In addition to the practical course, seminars deal with the European Pharmacopoeia and its methods. The theory of individual aspects, such as methods for the determination of the content or the detection of functional groups, is deepened. In addition, methods of other pharmacopoeias are presented.
Other seminars deal with the acquisition of information on pharmaceutical topics, especially the pharmaceutical-chemical quality of drugs as well as quality control and quality assurance. In addition, the principles of validation of test methods are learned.
As part of the PharMSchool, students in the Pharmacy program have the opportunity to work independently on the analytical-chemical aspects of their interdisciplinary project topic during the internship.
Part of the internship consists of theoretical tasks. In groups, the students work on a concrete problem. In doing so, the knowledge acquired in the seminars on literature research is to be applied. The collected information is compiled in a protocol and presented to the semester by the students in the form of a lecture.
The internship consists of 112 hours including seminars. The knowledge acquired here will be further deepened in the internship of the eighth semester.
