9th International Conference on Protein Kinase CK2

“70 years of CK2: still exciting, essential - and enigmatic!”

from 9th to 12th September 2024
at PharmaCampus, University of Münster, Germany

The phosphorylation of proteins - catalysed by highly specialised enzymes called protein kinases - is the most important regulatory mechanism on a molecular level in humans and other highly developed organisms. The importance of protein kinases is demonstrated by severe diseases such as cancer and developmental disorders, which are often caused by dysfunctions of individual protein kinases.

This immense importance of protein kinases was not even imaginable in 1954 when George Burnett and Eugene Kennedy reported on ‘protein phosphokinase’, the first protein kinase in the history of science, which is now known as ‘protein kinase CK2’. 70 years later, the anniversary of this pioneering discovery is a welcome occasion to dedicate an international conference to this enzyme.

The University of Münster is delighted to serve as host for the international CK2 community and thus to continue a series of international CK2 conferences that began in Heidelberg in 1994 - 30 years ago. For three days, researchers from all over the world will look back on 70 years of CK2 research and 30 years of international CK2 conferences, but above all they will report on the results of current research and exchange views on future perspectives.
