The project ''Die Entwicklung der satzinternen Großschreibung im Deutschen'' (SIGS 2013-1015) (The development of sentence-internal capitalization of words in German) funded by the DFG is a cooperation between Renata Szczepaniak (Hamburg) and Klaus-Michael Köpcke (Muenster).

It combines linguistic questions originating from historical graphematics and cognitive linguistics with witch interrogation protocols. The project is based on the assumption that the sentence-internal capitalization in German develops from a pragmatic function (emphasis) to a syntactically motivated capitalization. In order to analyze the potential cognitive-semantic (referentiality) and morphosyntactic (animacy) factors, the witch interrogation protocols were annotated (see corpus).
