Maren Conrad studied German Literature and Media, Scandinavian Culture, and Psychology from 2004 to 2008 at Kiel University.
During her academic studies she worked as secretary of the editorial office of the EJSS - European Journal of Scandinavian Studies. In July 2008 she received an M.A. for her thesis on narrative and semiotic strategies in the presentation of audiovisual advertising.
From 2008 to 2011 she worked as a lecturer at the Institute for German Literature and Media at Kiel University and graduated in 2012 with a PhD. Her thesis deals with the rise of the Fantastic in German Ballads 1770-1830.
She was as the DAAD-lecturer at the Department of German at University College Cork, Ireland from August 2011 to September 2012.
From October 2012 until April 2017 she was the coordinator of the Graduate School ‘Practices of Literature’ as well as the PostDoc member of the Promotionskolleg ‘Literaturtheorie als Theorie der Gesellschaft’ at Münster University.
She now holds a professorship at FAU Erlangen-Nürnberg.
Her research deals with the german ballad, fantastic literature with an interest in childrensliterature, postcatastrophic narration in 21st century literature, film and other media.
