SE-MS conference on:

COMPLEX SYSTEMS: FROM THE NANOSCALE TO THE CONTINUUM (CS:N2C)

Feb 10 - 12, 2015

AIM & SCOPE:

For quite some time, there has been a close relationship between the physics faculty ("Facultad de Física") of the University of Seville in Spain, and the physics department ("Fachbereich Physik") of the WWU Münster, primarily focussing on undergrad and master level students. The focus of this conference is to promote and intensify collaboration on the graduate and junior scientist level between the research groups in Seville and Münster.
The general topic of the conference is complex systems. Roughly speaking, these are systems that consist of a (large) number of interdependent and complicately (and often nonlinearly) interacting components. Due to the interplay of cooperation and competition of the components, these systems typically exhibit properties such as emergence and self-organization.
The conference covers five topical fields in complex systems' research:

  • open quantum systems & beyond
  • coupled systems, synchronization, & feedback
  • soft matter-, nano-, & biosystems
  • Bose-Einstein condensation
  • granular matter

Fifteen talks of the conference are contributed by six research groups from the physics department of the University of Seville, eighteen talks by six research groups from the physics department in Münster. Since an integral part of the conference is the promotion of young and junior scientists, a large part of the talks are presented by Ph.D. students and junior scientists. Besides that, there are also in part tutorial talks by senior scientists.
The conference is organized by Prof. Stefan J. Linz (Institut für Theoretische Physik, WWU Münster) and Prof. Manuel Morillo Buzon (Física, Atómica, Molecular y Nuclear, Facultad de Física, Universidad de Sevilla).
Funding for this conference is provided by Deuscher Akademischer Austauschdienst (DAAD) within the program "Hochschuldialog mit Südeuropa" for 2014/15.
Since there is no participation fee for the conference, interested students and scientists are welcome to attend the conference.
