Spin-Sonics
Collaboration partner Zubin Jacob, Purdue University
Recently we reported the first direct observation of the transverse spin of a surface acoustic waves at radio frequencies. This work was a combined experimental and theoretical effort with the group of Zubin Jacob at Purdue University.
The underlying fundamental phenomenon of spin-momentum-locking was predicted for surface acoustic waves by Lord Rayleigh back in 1885 and its direct observation remained a grand challenge.
