The award from the student council this year went to Professor Dr. Anika Schlenhoff for the bachelor's lectures "Atomic and Quantum Physics" and "Physics of Condensed Matter".

Since there are many excellent lecturers in the department, the decision was not easy again this year. The honored lecturer impressed with outstanding evaluation results in two different bachelor's courses. The students describe Professor Schlenhoff's lectures as easy to follow, with comprehensive enthusiasm for the subjects and a friendly atmosphere in the lecture hall!

Professor Dr. Anika Schlenhoff researches at the Physical Institute at the University of Münster using (spin-polarized) scanning tunneling microscopy and spectroscopy to investigate the structural, magnetic, and (opto-)electronic properties of low-dimensional solid-state systems on atomic length scales.

On the background: The teaching award has been given for the twelfth time. As every year, the award is based on the results of teaching evaluations within the department. The student council has set criteria that a good course must meet. This includes, among other things, the ability of the lecturer to spark interest in students and to convey the content as enthusiastically and understandably as possible. Therefore, it is necessary for the lecturer to be well-prepared for the lecture and to respond appropriately to questions.

The comparison of the courses based on these criteria is made by the teaching award committee, which this year consists of four members – Simone Wessel, Victoria Veronika Skwara, Alexander Tiekötter, and Tim Stellhorn. However, only lectures with a minimum number of participants were considered in order to ensure a certain comparability. With these criteria, almost all mandatory lectures and the introductory lectures for the specialized deepening courses were taken into account.
