Research Project
Body Image Disturbance is one of the main symptoms for Anorexia Nervosa stated by the American Psychiatric Association (DSM-V). The body image is a very complex construct that encompasses behavioral, cognitive/affective and perceptive aspects. Since there has been a lot of research concerning vision (e.g. drawing one's own silhouette), now research is focusing on other senses like touch and it can be stated that a body image disorder is multisensory in nature.
In my research project I am interested in the differences of perception and localization of tactile stimuli in patients with Anorexia Nervosa and in healthy controls. I also want to investigate how overestimation of body size influences conscious and unconscious movements. The definition and relationship between body image and body schema is one specific aspect which plays a role in this context.
