Arslan Sheikh is a Fellow at the Centre from 1 January 2024. He is based at the Junaid Zaidi Library, COMSATS University, Islamabad, Pakistan. Arslan received his Master of Library Information Science from the University of the Punjab (Pakistan) in 2006. He is currently a PhD student at the Institute for Library and Information Science, Humboldt University, Berlin, Germany. His research topic is “Open Science in the Pakistani Perspective”, which is being supervised by Prof. Dr. Eric Steinhauer, who is a Fellow of the Centre for Advanced Study.
Arslan Sheikh’s publications include the articles Evolution of research data management in academic libraries: A review of the literature (with A. Malik and R. Adnan); Research practices of LIS professionals in Pakistan: A study of attitudes, involvement and competencies (with A. Malik and K. Mahmood); The International Open Access Movement and Its Current Status in Pakistan; Faculty awareness, use and attitudes towards scholarly open access: A Pakistani perspective and Research Productivity of LIS Schools in Pakistan: A Study of MPhil and PhD Theses to 2015 (with S. U. Jan).
He also serves as a reviewer for many international research journals including “Journal of Knowledge Management”, “Journal of Librarianship and Information Science”, “Information Development Journal”, “Journal of Information Science”, “The Electronic Library”, “Global Knowledge, Memory and Communication”, “Digital Library Perspectives” and “Information Discovery and Delivery”.
Arslan Sheikh has been a visiting lecturer at the Department of Information Management, University of Sargodha (Pakistan). He is a consecutive recipient of the “CUI, Research Productivity Award” for the years 2014 to 2023, awarded by COMSATS University Islamabad. He has also been a part of the Research Software Alliance (ReSA)’s project funded by the Code for Science and Society, USA. His research interests include open access publishing, open science, social media networking, systematic literature review and research data management.
