The North Rhine-Westphalian Academy of Sciences and Arts accepted the Editio Critica Maior (ECM) presented by INTF as one of their long-term projects. The Academy entered into a contract with Münster University in 2007 envisaging the setup of the project "Novum Testamentum Graecum - Editio Critica Maior". The project work started in January 2008.

Research associates working on the Academy Project bear the responsibilities of four central areas: to examine and evaluate evidence from Greek manuscripts, New Testament citations in Greek patristic authors, and the Coptic transmission of the New Testament. Finally, the resulting information, from comparison of transcriptions to genealogical research, has to be processed so that it can be made available through printed publications and digital formats.
