Werner Kuhn: “Making GIS Accessible to Problem Solvers”
To address global challenges effectively, Geoinformatics needs to open up, technically and scientifically. The technical systems we build need to become accessible to domain scientists and problem solvers with essentially zero training, and the science we practice needs to grow through interaction with domain sciences. The talk proposes two linked strategies to address these needs. The first is to organize GIS functionality around core concepts that are meaningful in domains; the second is to build infrastructure for domain scientists to formulate and test spatial hypotheses around the core concepts.
