The Chair of International Relations and Sustainable Development undertakes research in the field of energy policy on all governance levels with a particular focus on the interaction of local, national and European governance levels. At the center of the chair's interest stand questions of the 'Energiewende' in Germany, participation and regulation, and the saving of energy. The research project 'KomMa-P', a sub-project at the WWU that is undertaken in close cooperation with public services in Münster as praxis partner, investigates the possibility and conditions for success of participation in urban areas (www.energiewende-akzeptanz.de). Another project is LITRES, also a sub-project at the WWU that looks at the embedment of local innovation impulses in the energy sector in European multi-level governance and tries to evaluate impulses and barriers for the success or the diffusion of innovations (www.uni-stuttgart.de/litres/projekt/index.html). TRANSPOSE was a project led by the chair and investigated potentials for the design of instruments to promote the saving of energy in private households in Germany, evaluating successful programs in other countries and their transferability. Progressive energy tariffs and bonus programs were at the center of analysis.
