First Audition? Applying for (Junior-)Professorships
Target group: The seminar is aimed at female advanced PhD Students, postdocs, Junior professors and junior research group leaders and is designed for participants with little or no experience with appointment procedures.
Webcast
Duration: 3,75 h, available 3 weeks before the group meetings
The aim of the webcast is to inform you in detail about the most important phases of the appointment procedure for (W1 to W3) professorships in Germany and to provide you with concrete advice and tips for your applications. The video first looks at the procedure and formal aspects of the appointment process. All the necessary application documents (especially CV, cover letter, concepts) are then discussed in detail and in part illustrated with sample materials. In the third part, the expectations and requirements in the hearing with the appointment committee as well as important preparation steps are discussed. You will receive tips and brief demonstrations on how to structure your scientific presentation and teaching demonstration. In addition, the most frequently asked questions and topics in the committee interview are outlined.

Tasks for preparing the small group meeting

Small group meeting
In the group session, there is first of all the opportunity to clarify all the participants' open questions about applying for professorships. Subsequently, it is planned that all participants will give their prepared 3-minute presentation to present their own profile (introductory part of the scientific talk; instructions are given in the webcast) and receive feedback from the participants and the trainer. Finally, the interview with the committee will be discussed. Here the participants will practice answering some typical and challenging questions from committee interviews and will also receive feedback.
