Abstract: Due to its global nature, the analytical properties of the Volume Preserving Mean Curvature Flow differ crucially from its classical uncle, the Mean Curvature Flow. As a consequence, almost no preserved quantities are known and many questions about the behavior of the flow in singularities were open until recently. I present results about the formation of singularities in finite time answering some of these questions. The fundamental estimate that is needed to do that is a bound on the Lagrange multiplier in the evolution equation. Furthermore, we show that being Alexandrov immersed seems to be a natural property of hypersurfaces when moving by the Volume Preserving Mean Curvature Flow. This talk is based on work with Ben Lambert.
