Persistence results will be presented for discrete semiflows arising from models for two-sex populations that have short reproductive seasons and diffuse under Dirichlet boundary conditions. A threshold separating persistence from local stability of the extinction equilibrium is provided by the spectral radius of a homogeneous order preserving map that is not additive. Approximations and estimates of this spectral radius (Collatz-Wielandt numbers) will be discussed.
