A valued field (K,v) is called henselian if the valuation extends uniquely to any algebraic extension of K. If the valuation is not definable, this is not necessarily an elementary property (in the language of fields): There are fields which are elementarily equivalent to a henselian field but don't admit a non-trivial henselian valuation. We will discuss conditions which enforce or prevent henselianity.
