The aim of this talk is to illustrate the recent solution to the C*-rigidity problem for Roe-like algebras of locally compact metric spaces. Namely, two such spaces have (stably) isomorphic Roe-like algebras if and only if they are coarsely equivalent. This shows that the Roe algebra completely retains all the coarse geometric information of the underlying metric space. Our methods also show that the group of outer automorphisms of roe-like algebras are a canonically isomorphic to the group of self-coarse equivalences of the space. In the first part of the talk I will introduce all the relevant notions and state the main theorem, in the second part I will illustrate the strategy of proof and explain some of its key point.
