Björn Luig (Uni Münster): Improving the Energy Efficiency of Transport Units in a Linear Transport System through Setpoint Generation with Optimal Control

The company Beckhoff Automation produces a linear transport system "in which magnetically driven movers move along a travel path of fully integrated motor modules. An Industrial PC with [...] automation software enables the independent control of the movers with individual motion profiles." In my master's thesis, I develop a model for the power consumption of such a mover depending on the motion profile. It considers mass and acceleration along straight and curved tracks, friction, and magnetic effects across different motor modules and movers. The ultimate goal is to develop a fast optimization algorithm to calculate more energy-efficient motion profiles within the bounds of technically feasible paths for dynamically changing applications.
