Reduction of data acquisition time is an important research topic in MR imaging. This talk will cover the use of variational regularization methods for image reconstruction of accelerated MR. It is then shown how similar concepts can be facilitated in the reconstruction of simultaneously acquired data from integrated MR-PET systems. A recently proposed joint reconstruction framework is presented and open topics and current challenges are discussed.
