Ragnar Buchweitz (University of Toronto Scarborough): Noncommutative Desingularization of Singularities — Why and What for?

Thursday, 19.05.2011 16:30 im Raum M5

Mathematik und Informatik

Over the last fifty years, the interplay between Commutative Algebra and Algebraic Geometry or Complex Analysis produced many deep insights and great progress in these areas. During the last decade, Noncommutative Algebra and Representation Theory entered the picture, in particular, when it comes to resolution of singularities. Through pertinent examples we will explain how this new viewpoint arises, what its practical consequences are and what major questions remain to be answered.
