ExcellentBattery Center Dresden

The “ExcellentBattery Center Dresden” (EBZ Dresden for short) combines the expertise of the participating research institutions in materials research for new battery systems. New electrode materials are developed in an interdisciplinary manner at the Dresden site, investigated using advanced characterization methods and transferred to application-oriented prototype battery cells using innovative process technologies.

ExcellentBattery Center Munich

The research focus of the “ExcellentBattery Center for Battery Cells at the Technical University of Munich” (in short: EBZ Munich) lies on material and electrochemical characterization and modelling of next-generation electrode materials. On the cathode side, low-cobalt and manganese-rich as well as overlithiated active materials are being investigated and combined with a silicon anode. Due to the high specific energy density of silicon, the energy density of the cells should be increased compared to exclusively graphite-based systems. In addition, silicon-containing material systems will be used to improve the fast-charging capability and life time.

ExcellentBattery Center Münster

Objectives of the “ExcellentBattery Center Münster” are the implementation, further development, production and testing of selected battery materials and components that are suitable in terms of properties and processability for future lithium cells with high energy density. The envisaged cell concepts mainly comprise polymer-based gel and hybrid electrolytes up to all-solid-state concepts and corresponding electrolyte/electrode structures. The experimental work is accompanied by targeted modelling of the materials, interfaces and cell structures. The scientific team discusses and links the production and testing of the various cell concepts with analyses of economic resource planning and utilisation strategies.
