Welcome to the South Thailand Homepage of Associate Professor Dr. Ryoko Nishii and former Visiting Professor Dr. Alexander Horstmann (Sep. 2001 - Aug. 2002), at the Research Institute for Languages and Cultures of Asia and Africa (ILCAA).
The South Thailand Homepage is being updated by Alexander Horstmann. Dr.Horstmann is a Senior Research Fellow at the Institute for Ethnology (Southeast Asia Program), Westfaelische Wilhelms-University Muenster, Germany. He is directing a research project on Buddhist-Muslim relations in Taleesap Songkla (Lake Songkla) for which he has received funding from the Fritz-Thyssen Research Foundation (2004-2007). The homepage keeps you informed about his latest research findings, presentations, articles and books.
We want to introduce the people, arts and cultures of South Thailand between the Thai and Malay Worlds on the Golden Peninsula. On the homepage, you will get to know the research projects and publications of Alexander Horstmann and Ryoko Nishii.
In addition, the homepage provides a space for researchers who are interested in the region. The reader is furnished with details on the South Thailand agenda and a detailed bibliography on the anthropology of South Thailand. Researchers are invited to join a list of social sciences in South Thailand/ North Malaysia and to send papers, research notes and field reports to the editors.
